Who is responsible

The English Wire is responsible for the personal data described here (the "data controller"). To contact us about your data, use the contact form and choose "Privacy request".

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we store your email address, the date you gave your consent, and which page you signed up from, so we can send you the emails you asked for. When you subscribe we send you one welcome email. The legal basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, on our unsubscribe page, or by asking us. When you unsubscribe, your address is marked as unsubscribed and we stop sending you emails; if you would like it deleted completely, ask us through the contact form (choose "Privacy request") and we will delete it.

Contact form and mistake reports

If you use the contact form, we store what you send, the lesson and page it is about, and your name and email if you give them, to reply to you and to fix lessons. We delete messages after 12 months. To stop the form being flooded, we keep a scrambled code, made from your connection and the current hour, for up to two hours; it cannot be turned back into your IP address, and we do not store your IP address.

Counting how the site is used

The site has its own simple counter. It records which pages and lessons are opened, how long pages stay open while you are using them, how far interactive lessons are worked through (and the score at the end), which PDFs are downloaded, whether a visit came from a phone or a computer, where the visit came from (for example Facebook or a search engine), and which country a visit comes from. The country is worked out when the visit reaches our server, from information supplied by our hosting or from your browser's time zone, and only the two-letter country code is kept.

The counter uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Each open tab gets a random visit number that exists only while the page is open and is never saved. We do not store IP addresses or any other personal data for this.

Lesson progress

Interactive lessons and crosswords save your answers in your own browser (local storage) so you can come back later. That stays on your device; we never receive it. You can remove it by clearing your browser's site data.

Who else handles data

The website is hosted by Lovable, and our database (which holds newsletter addresses, contact messages and the usage counts) is part of Lovable Cloud and is hosted in Ireland, in the European Union. Newsletter emails are sent through Resend, an email service, which receives your email address in order to deliver them. We never sell your data.

No visitor data is sent to AI services: lessons are written before anyone visits.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, object to its use, or withdraw your consent, by using the contact form (choose "Privacy request"). You can also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the AEPD (www.aepd.es).

Children

If you are under 14, please ask a parent or guardian before subscribing.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
